Some
final Thoughts
On
Choosing Greyden Press
copyright
n.
The legal right granted to an author, a composer, a playwright,
a publisher, or a distributor to exclusive publication, production,
sale, or distribution of a literary, musical, dramatic, or artistic
work.
Fair
Use and the Law
In 1976, a new copyright law took effect addressing the technological
deficiencies of the old law, namely the existence of copiers, high
speed duplicators, and tape recording devices. The law is much stronger
than those previously on the books and specifically provides protection
against these technology developments. Since that time even more
copyright dilemmas have developed in the form of the Internet and
the ability to quickly copy and distribute electronic media.
We
at Greyden Press are very serious about the Copyright laws. We do
everything possible to make sure that the content in your course
material has been properly cleared and authorized for use by the
copyright holder. While the new technologies of audio and video
present a bit more of a challenge than traditionally published articles
we are constantly working to keep up with methods to secure permissions
for all media presented to us for use in course material.
Security
Coursepacks on CD-ROM and Coursepacks Online have several added
security features that protect ourselves, as the production company
and the holders of copyright against any unauthorized use of material
either on a CD-ROM or downloaded from the Internet. These security
features allow us to control access to the electronic product, printing
of content, and even the life of the file. Advisories on security
are prominently featured on all of our electronic products so that
users are very clear on what they can expect from these services.
Pricing
We try very hard to assist professors in making sure that the cost
of course material is not prohibitive to students. While we can
accurately estimate production cost, we don't always know how much
a publisher will charge for use of copyrighted material. We have
built a step in to our production process that requires our staff
to contact a professor (or bookstore) if the cost of permissions
push up the price of course material by more than 15% of our original
estimate. We feel it is important to give our customers control
over the end price of the product to students.
